My personal and anecdotal experience would tie up with everyone's here.  Out of interest I ran some very basic searches on Jobserve (not very scientific or reliable but it does give an indication). Results were as follows:

Architect
  Permanent 1319 roles (73.5%)
  Contract 475 roles (26.5%)
  Total 1794 roles

Developer
  Permanent 5891 roles (66.6%)
  Contract 2960 roles (33.4%)
  Total 8851 roles

PM
  Permanent 2750 roles (66.5%)
  Contract 1385 roles (33.5%)
  Total 4135 roles

Interestingly, the percentage of contract architect roles was closer to the percentage of contract developer roles than I expected but this may simply be the Jobserve effect.
