What is software architecture? What is the role of a software architect? How do you define software architecture? How do you share software architecture? How do you deliver software architecture?

Coding the Architecture London User Group

Following on from our successful The Pragmatic Java Architect sessions earlier in the year, we're pleased to announce the "Coding the Architecture London User Group". The user group will run monthly, with each event being an unconference style session or presentation, followed by some refreshments at a local bar.

To stick with the coding the architecture theme, you can expect to hear lots about the role of the software architect, experiences with software architecture definition and delivery, architecture case studies, etc. As with the content we write for the site, our aim is that the user group appeals to aspiring and experienced architects alike, with content that's technical but not necessarily right down at the lowest level of detail. If you think it's okay for software architects to code, this user group is for you.

Ultimately, we'd like to build a community of software architects in London, creating a forum in which aspiring architects can learn about what it means to be a software architect and experienced architects can share ideas with one another. If you're wondering exactly what a software architect does and how to embark on your first software architecture role, come along. Likewise, if you have something you think others will find interesting and want to present (e.g. your first architecture experiences, a case study of an architecture you've been involved with, etc), please get in touch.

The first session will be taking place in September. Stay tuned for more details.

Re: Coding the Architecture London User Group

Excellent! I was thinking of dropping you a note to see if you were still planning to do this, and how I might help...

I can't wait... Hope I can make it.

Re: Coding the Architecture London User Group

The tentative date for the first session is Tuesday, 4th of September. :-)

Re: Coding the Architecture London User Group

I certainly mean to be there if I can. I'll also encourage some of my colleagues and former colleagues to attend.

Re: Coding the Architecture London User Group

Good stuff. Any preferences on what you want to talk/hear about at the first session?

Re: Coding the Architecture London User Group

Not sure, but lots of discussion, no slide-death :-) I've done this stuff internally and a first session of "what do we want to get out of this" often works (bit of a cheat!)

Re: Coding the Architecture London User Group

Looking forward to this, but can I encourage you to pick another day. Tuesdays, especially the first of each month, are popular and full of events, both professional and social.

Re: Coding the Architecture London User Group

I'll try to cycle the days between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. :-)
